10 Tips for photography enthusiasts and beginners

  1. Buy a good camera first
Good doesn’t mean the best or the expensive. Get a decent camera that fits your budget. Always remind yourself that you are doing this as a learning process and not a profession (at least right now).
  2. Get the accessories
Accessories make the magic. So get the basic ones like filters and tripods if possible. They are god for a good start. Without them, even though you are an amateur, you end up looking like one.
  3. Practice makes man perfect
Practice with your camera as much as possible. Since it’s digital you don’t have to worry about costs in filming. Just click on and start making a steady progress.
  4. Learn from the masters
Keep the best photographs you’ve seen as benchmarks and work towards it. Try to ape them first. While you are trying it, you never know, you’d come across a better technique.
  5. Make mistakes and learn from them
Making mistakes are good, atleast in photography. You never learn anything unless you try. So learn to make mistakes and learn from them.
  6. Don’t compare yourself to someone else
Comparing yourself and your photos to someone else can lower your self esteem. Always understand that a single subject will be seen as different to many photographers. So you needn’t do as good as with a subject like someone else did. Create your own style.
  7. Don’t get flattered by biased comments
It’s very possible that your friends flatter you with their praises. But believe us, not all the time do you get good critics. Rather than asking them how good your photo is, ask them what you didn’t like about it or what they’dve liked.
  8. Compete with yourself not someone else
Always compete with yourself, Click on the same subject many times and improvise. You’ll find that the quality keeps improving with each click.
  9. Focus on quality and not quantity
Quality means living up to standards, so focus on attaining good standards for your photos, and don’t worry about quantity.
  10. Learn the techniques
Always learn the nifty techniques from the masters. They will take you a long way.
